Lavender that lasts a whole winter. Frankincense you can afford to be generous with. Sweet orange, peppermint, rose, sandalwood — thirty MAYJAM essential oils in the 30ml bottle almost nobody stocks, which happens to be the size most people actually need.
Ten millilitres tells you whether you like an oil. A hundred is what you buy once you are certain. Thirty sits between the two: roughly six hundred drops, four to six months of regular diffusing, the amount it takes to learn whether a scent still pleases you in February as much as it did in October. It is the right size for your second and third favourites — the oils you reach for monthly rather than nightly, and the ones that quietly oxidise in a cupboard when you buy them too big.
The range is genuinely broad. Lavender, eucalyptus, peppermint, tea tree, rosemary, lemon, sweet orange, grapefruit, bergamot, lemongrass and citronella cover everyday diffusing. Frankincense, sandalwood, patchouli and cedarwood give a blend its weight. Jasmine, rose, ylang ylang, geranium, chamomile and clary sage handle the florals, and clove, cinnamon, ginger, basil, black pepper, fennel, cajeput and camphor fill in the warm and the sharp — several of which are hard to buy singly anywhere.
Every bottle is amber glass with a black screw cap and MAYJAM's colour-coded label, one colour block per scent. Thirty small brown bottles look identical in a drawer until you give them colours, and this is the same labelling used across MAYJAM's 10ml and 100ml sizes — so you can trial small, settle at thirty, and step up to a hundred for the two you cannot do without, without relearning anything.
Three to five drops per 100ml of water in a diffuser; six to twelve drops per 30ml of carrier oil for the body, half that for the face, patch tested first. Keep cinnamon, clove and lemongrass out of skin blends, and note that camphor and fennel carry real cautions around young children and in pregnancy. At this price the rose, jasmine, sandalwood and vanilla are interpretations rather than true absolutes — lovely to diffuse, not material for skincare.
