Clary sage is floral without being simply pretty — complex the way an herb garden in bloom is complex: slightly herbal, slightly earthy, sweet without being conventionally saccharine. Steam-distilled from the flowers and leaves, it arrives undiluted and single-botanical.
Clary sage shares linalyl acetate and linalool with lavender, part of why it carries a similarly settling, calming character in a diffuser; blended 3 drops clary sage with 2 drops lavender and 1 drop geranium it's a well-balanced, calming combination. Individual responses vary, and we describe this tradition honestly rather than making medical claims.
Diluted into a carrier oil, clary sage has a long traditional use as an abdominal or lower-back massage as part of a comforting monthly ritual, and diluted properly, it's a valued ingredient in natural skincare formulations for balanced, healthy-looking skin.
Not recommended during pregnancy due to its estrogenic properties, and best avoided in combination with alcohol, which can intensify its calming effect. As with any essential oil, dilute before skin contact and patch test first.
