SAC Pagan Spell Incense Sticks carry an anise and warming spice fragrance on an incense base, made for ritual and cleansing work. Twenty sticks to a pack, each burning for approximately twenty-five to thirty-five minutes.
Anise is the reason to notice this one. It is a genuinely uncommon incense note — sweet, licorice-like, unmistakable — and it puts the stick somewhere closer to a spice cupboard than to the resin-and-wood territory most ritual blends occupy. Nothing else in the SAC range smells anything like it, and very little elsewhere on an incense shelf does either.
The warming spice underneath is what keeps it from tipping into confectionery. A sweet note on its own can read as candy after ten minutes in a closed room; the spice gives it a base to sit on and keeps the whole thing recognizably an incense rather than a sweet.
Anise does carry a long history in European folk-magical practice, which is where the blend's name and intended use come from. We report that history because it is why the product exists in this form, and claim nothing as a result of burning it. See the range in our SAC Incense collection.
People use it for altar work, meditation and clearing a room, and it is perfectly good at the last of those in the ordinary sense: a distinctive fragrance changes how a space feels, which is what incense has always actually done, whatever additional meaning any given tradition attaches to it.
No holder comes in the pack, so set out a fire-safe holder before lighting, on a stable, non-flammable surface, and burn in a well-ventilated room away from children and pets. More ritual blends sit in our Incense collection.
