Tribal Soul White Sage + Palo Santo Incense Sticks pair White Sage from Salvia apiana with Palo Santo from Bursera graveolens, in a 15 g pack. Herbaceous, astringent sage meets warm, resinous palo santo over a slow, consistent burn.

These are the two best-known cleansing plants of the Americas, and blending them is not arbitrary. Sage runs dry, green and sharp; palo santo runs sweet, balsamic and resinous. Burned together the result is grounded and gently lifted at the same time, which is something neither plant manages alone.

Both species are named on this listing, which is worth pointing out because the solo Palo Santo sticks in the same line are described as a palo santo-inspired blend rather than the wood. We describe each product the way its own listing does, and we are not going to smooth over the difference between them.

What has to be said plainly is what this is not. Smudging is living religious practice belonging to Indigenous communities, carried out with bundled herbs, and palo santo is burned in South American practice by the communities who keep it. Burning an incense stick is not either of those things, and we report both practices out of respect rather than as a feature list.

The slow burn is a practical virtue in this category. Cleansing-style incense is often lit at the start of something — a meditation, a clear-out, a quiet hour — and a stick that holds steady rather than racing to the end suits that use. More of the category sits in our Sage collection.

No stick count or burn time in minutes is printed on the 15 g pack. It arrives as a slide-out box with a brown paper bag, a rope tie and a complementary feather, with no holder included, so set out a fire-safe one first. The rest of the range sits in our Tribal Soul collection.
