Namaste India White Sage Incense Sticks blend natural herbs, aromatic resins and essential oils into a clean, earthy, soothing fragrance.

It is worth being plain about the distinction, because the name invites confusion. Smudging is a living ceremonial practice belonging to Indigenous communities, carried out with bundled herbs in a particular way. An incense stick carrying a sage fragrance is not that, and we would not describe it as such.

White sage is also burned in cleansing practice across several cultures, and the belief that it clears a space is held sincerely in those settings. We report it as belief held there, out of respect for the communities it belongs to, and claim nothing as an effect of burning one of these sticks.

As a fragrance on its own terms it is the most distinctive thing in the Namaste range. Sage is green and astringent, closer to a herb garden than to anything sweet or resinous, and in a catalog that otherwise runs warm — sandalwood, vanilla, cinnamon, myrrh — it is the one genuinely bracing note. See the range in our Namaste India collection.

The build is stated more fully than most sage sticks manage: natural herbs, aromatic resins and essential oils, three classes named rather than a bare fragrance description. The resins in particular give it a base that a purely herbal stick would lack.

Compared with a sage bundle the difference is smoke. A bundle produces a great deal of it and that volume is part of what it is for; a stick gives you the herb's crisp green character without the room filling up. No holder comes in the pack, so use a fire-safe holder on a stable surface. More sit in our Incense Sticks collection.
