It is the most summery and immediately joyful of the citrus oils.

Q: Is lime essential oil phototoxic?
A: Cold-pressed lime oil is phototoxic — it contains furanocoumarins that can cause skin discoloration or burns when exposed to UV light after topical application. Avoid sun exposure on treated skin for at least 12 hours. Steam-distilled lime oil is not phototoxic, but cold-pressed retains a fuller, more vibrant aromatic profile.

A: Lemon is sharper, more tart and clarifying — the focus and productivity citrus. Lime is sweeter, more tropical and cheerful — the mood and energy citrus. Q: Can I add lime essential oil to my bath?
A: Yes — but always dilute first. Add 8–10 drops to a tablespoon of carrier oil or unscented bath emulsifier before adding to running water. Never add undiluted essential oil directly to bathwater — the oil droplets will concentrate on the skin surface rather than dispersing, which can cause irritation.
