Seven day candles — also called novena or vigil candles — are tall wax pillars poured into a glass jar and made to burn slowly over several days rather than an evening. Ours come in plain colours, two-tone pours, printed devotional labels and full zodiac sets, in the standard jar size that fits most candle holders. The name describes the format and the approximate burn length, and the colour and label follow long-standing folk and devotional conventions.
Benefits of a 7 Day Candle
One candle covers a whole week of daily practice instead of a fresh tea light every night, so it suits anyone who keeps an altar, a shrine or a regular sitting. The glass jar contains the flame and the wax, which makes it steadier and less messy than an open pillar, and most are unscented so they will not compete with incense burning alongside them.
How to Choose a 7 Day Candle
Choose by theme first. Single-colour candles are the most flexible and let you bring your own meaning; labelled candles carry a specific traditional theme printed on the glass; zodiac candles are chosen by birth sign and make straightforward gifts. Two-colour and reversible pours are used in particular folk traditions and are worth reading up on before you buy. Then check the jar height against your holder or shelf, since these are taller than a votive.
Popular Types of 7 Day Candle
Coloured and Labelled Candles
Red, green, white, black, pink and purple pours, plain or with a printed devotional label. These sit alongside the wider spiritual candles range if you want a shorter-burning format for the same purpose.
Zodiac and Gift Candles
A full set of twelve star signs, often bought as birthday gifts. Pair one with a candle holder for a finished present.
How to Burn a 7 Day Candle Safely
Stand the jar upright on a heatproof surface, well away from curtains, paper and anything else that can catch. Never leave it burning unattended, and keep it out of reach of children and pets — the glass gets hot and should not be moved while lit. If the flame climbs high or the glass blackens heavily, snuff it and let it cool before relighting, and stop before the flame reaches the very bottom of the jar.
