Q: What does Basil Essential Oil smell like, and how is it produced?
A: Fresh, herbaceous, and slightly spicy–sweet with a crisp, green lift. It’s 100% pure oil steam-distilled from the leaves/flowering tops of *Ocimum basilicum*.

Q: Are there different basil chemotypes, and which is gentler for skin?
A: Yes. Linalool chemotype (ct. linalool) is softer and more skin-friendly; estragole (methyl chavicol) chemotype is sharper and should be used more cautiously and at lower dilutions.

Q: How do I use it safely on skin and in massage?
A: Always dilute. Face: 0.2–0.5% (1–3 drops per 30 ml carrier). Body: 0.5–2% (3–12 drops per 30 ml). Patch test first, use externally only, and avoid eyes/mucous membranes.

Q: How much should I use in a diffuser, and what does it blend well with?
A: Diffuser: 2–5 drops per 100 ml water. It pairs beautifully with lemon, lime, grapefruit, rosemary, lavender, eucalyptus, and cedarwood for bright, clarifying blends.

Q: Any precautions or who should be cautious with Basil oil?
A: Not phototoxic. Avoid use on infants/young children; use extra care during pregnancy or if you have sensitive skin. If using an estragole-rich type, keep dilutions especially low. Discontinue if irritation occurs and ensure good ventilation when diffusing around pets.
