Light the tip. Hold a flame to the tip of the stick for a few seconds until it catches and glows.

Fan out the flame. Gently fan or blow out the flame so the stick settles into a slow, even smolder.

Place in a holder. Set the stick in a stable, fire-safe holder that will catch the ash as it falls.

Ventilate and enjoy. Burn in a well-ventilated room and let the stick burn down fully, or extinguish it early in sand or a fireproof dish.
