Boosting health with aromatherapy

Aromatherapy is a simple, affordable way to bring a little calm into your day. Using essential oils in a diffuser, in the bath, or diluted on the skin, many people find the aromas relaxing and grounding.

An honest note: research on aromatherapy is still limited and mixed (see the NCCIH overview), and it isn't a treatment for illness. Enjoy it for relaxation and everyday wellbeing rather than as medicine, and see a healthcare professional for any medical concern.

Ways People Use Aromatherapy

  • To unwind: calming oils like lavender and chamomile are popular for easing into the evening after a busy day.
  • Before sleep: a few drops of lavender in a bedtime diffuser is a lovely wind-down ritual; many people find it relaxing, though the sleep evidence is still developing.
  • For a mood lift: bright citrus scents like lemon and bergamot feel fresh and uplifting.

Getting Started

It's easy to begin: a diffuser or a few drops of essential oil is all you need. Always dilute oils in a carrier oil (such as coconut or jojoba) before applying to skin, and patch-test first. If you're pregnant or take sedative medication, check with your healthcare provider before use.
