Blends as a family. The six sit across the registers a blend needs rather than clustering in one — citrus and mint lift the top, the florals carry the middle, and tea tree cuts sweetness when a mix turns cloying. That makes the box a starting kit for blending, not just six separate scents.

In a diffuser. Three to five drops per 100ml of water, adjusted to the size of the room. Use a machine that states it is essential-oil compatible, and rinse the reservoir between scents so one does not carry into the next.

Start with one at a time. Run each oil on its own for a few sessions before mixing. You learn far more about a scent from a week of living with it than from a first impression out of the bottle.

Then start blending. A workable first blend is three drops lemon, two lavender, one tea tree. Count in drops, write down what you used, and leave it a day before judging — blends settle and change.

On skin, only diluted. Never neat. For body use, 1–2% — about 6 to 12 drops per 30ml of carrier oil; halve that for the face or sensitive skin. Patch test any new oil first.

Measuring. Twenty drops is roughly a millilitre, so each 10ml bottle holds about two hundred drops — forty to sixty diffuser sessions.

Six single-botanical oils. Lemon, mint, rose, tea tree, lavender and jasmine, each bottled on its own in 10ml amber glass rather than pre-blended together.

Composition differs by bottle. Tea tree, rose and lemon are chemically unalike, so how one behaves on skin, in sunlight or in a blend tells you nothing reliable about the others.

Documentation on request. The supplier's packaging carries its own descriptive claims. Keep them in the box. The tray keeps the bottles upright and out of the light, which is most of what storage needs to achieve. A drawer or cupboard beats a shelf above a radiator or beside a window.

Lemon goes first. Citrus oils oxidise sooner than anything else in the set, so if one bottle is going to fade before the rest it will be the lemon. Lavender, tea tree and the florals hold considerably longer.

General guide. Stored properly, essential oils of this kind typically hold their character for one to three years depending on the botanical, citrus at the short end. Treat that as guidance rather than a guarantee, and follow any date printed on a bottle in preference to it.

Trust your nose. An oxidised oil smells flat or faintly of turpentine where it used to smell bright, and oxidised citrus is more likely to irritate skin — retire those from topical blends first even if they still work in a diffuser.

Never neat, never swallowed. These are concentrated plant extracts. Dilute in a carrier oil before any skin contact, patch test a new oil first, keep them away from eyes and mucous membranes, and do not take them internally.

Lemon and sunlight. Citrus oils can make skin more reactive to UV. If you have applied lemon to skin, keep that area out of the sun and off sunbeds for the rest of the day.

Pregnancy, medical care and children. If you are pregnant, nursing, under medical care, or using these around young children, speak to a healthcare professional before starting, and diffuse at a lower drop count around children.

Pets, and cats in particular. Tea tree is one of the oils most often flagged as a problem for cats, which process some aromatic compounds poorly. Never apply oils to an animal, diffuse only in rooms a pet can leave freely, and stop if you see drooling, unsteadiness or breathing changes.

Store out of reach. Keep the box where children and pets cannot get to it, away from heat and open flame, and wipe up spills promptly — undiluted oil marks polished and painted surfaces.
