Light the tip. Light the tip until it catches, then gently blow out the flame so it smolders.

Let the smoke settle. Once smoldering, the smoke should begin flowing downward over the burner's design within a few moments.

Burn on a stable surface. This cone can also be burned upright in any fire-safe holder or dish without a backflow burner.
