1. Choose a stable hanging point. Hang the censer from a secure hook or stand away from curtains and other flammable material.

2. Light your charcoal or cone. Light a charcoal disc with tongs until it sparks fully, or light the tip of a cone and let the flame die to an ember.

3. Place it in the bowl. Set the charcoal or cone in the center of the brass bowl.

4. Add granular or powder incense as needed. For charcoal, sprinkle a small amount of granular incense or resin powder on top once it's ashed over.

5. Let it cool before handling. Once finished, allow the bowl to cool fully before touching it or emptying the ash.

Open-ember caution. Lit charcoal, cones, or granular incense are an open ember and get very hot. Never leave it burning unattended, and hang it only where it's away from curtains, paper, and other flammable materials.

Secure the hanging point. Make sure the hook or stand it hangs from is stable and can't be bumped or pulled loose while lit.

Keep clear. Keep the censer out of reach of children and pets while in use and while cooling; the bowl stays hot well after the ember goes out.
