Backflow-Compatible Design. Creates a downward cascading smoke effect with a backflow burner, or burns like a standard cone in a regular holder.

Light the tip. Hold a flame to the tip of the cone for 10-15 seconds until it catches.

Let it settle to an ember. Blow out the flame gently — the tip should glow and release a steady stream of smoke.

Place it on a backflow burner. Set the cone in the burner's designated well so the smoke can flow down through the burner's channel, creating the cascading effect. (A standard heat-safe holder also works, without the backflow effect.)

Let it burn undisturbed. Each cone burns for approximately 20-30 minutes; avoid moving it while lit.

Extinguish and store. Once burned down, confirm the ember is fully out before leaving the room, and store the remaining cones away from heat and humidity.

Hem's backflow incense cones are handcrafted from a blend of woods, resins, florals, and essential oils; the exact formulation behind the opium note is proprietary to Hem and not published by the manufacturer. If you have known fragrance sensitivities or allergies, we recommend burning a single cone in a well-ventilated space before regular use.

Store the pack in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and humidity, both of which can dull the fragrance and make the cones brittle. Kept this way, backflow incense cones generally hold their scent well for 12-24 months, though this is general guidance rather than a supplier-stated date, since Hem does not print an expiration date on the packaging.

This is a burning product that produces an open ember and smoke when lit. Always burn it in a well-ventilated room, on a stable, heat-safe holder or dish, well away from curtains, papers, and other flammable material. Never leave a burning stick or cone unattended, and keep both the lit product and the ash it produces out of reach of children and pets. Fully extinguish the ember in sand, water, or a dedicated ash catcher before leaving the room, and let the holder cool before handling or emptying the ash.
