The note that makes blends work. Most people start with citrus and florals and wonder why their blends disappear so quickly. The missing piece is almost always a base note. Sandalwood is the classic answer, and one bottle changes what the rest of a collection can do.

Sized for someone who already knows. This is a working bottle rather than a sample. It suits people who have already decided sandalwood belongs on their shelf, or who are blending regularly enough that a small bottle is a nuisance.

What the label states. The bottle gives the botanical name as Santalum album and the origin as India, and the packaging carries the manufacturer's own grade and purity wording. We report what is printed rather than restating it as our own claim — if you need independent composition or batch documentation, ask before ordering and we will see what the supplier holds.

Something to run it in. The humidifier and diffuser range covers ultrasonic and cool-mist machines, and the oil burners need only a tealight.

A true base note. Sandalwood evaporates slowly, which is what lets it hold the lighter materials in a blend in place instead of letting them vanish in twenty minutes. Used alone it reads dry, creamy and settled; used underneath a citrus or a floral it lengthens the whole thing.

The working size. Roughly two thousand drops, or several hundred diffuser sessions. Base notes get used steadily rather than occasionally once you start blending, so a 10ml bottle of one tends not to last.

Boxed with a dropper. The pipette matters for anything you intend to repeat — counted drops make a blend reproducible where pouring makes every batch a guess. It arrives boxed with an instruction leaflet rather than loose.

Twelve scents in the range. Alongside sandalwood: frankincense and patchouli at the same heavy end, lavender and jasmine through the middle, and eucalyptus, peppermint, rosemary, lemon and sweet orange at the bright end — enough to build a full blend from one range.

In a diffuser. Three to five drops per 100ml of water, adjusted to the room. Use only a humidifier that states it is essential-oil compatible, and rinse the reservoir between scents so one does not carry into the next.

As a base note in a blend. One part sandalwood to two parts middle note and three parts top is a workable starting ratio. Sandalwood is quiet in the bottle and assertive over hours, so use less than instinct suggests and give the blend a day before judging it.

On skin, always diluted. Never neat. For body use, 1–2% — about 6 to 12 drops per 30ml of carrier oil. For face or sensitive skin, 0.5–1%, roughly 3 to 6 drops per 30ml. Patch test first.

In candles and soap. Follow the rate your wax or soap base specifies, and test a small batch before a full run. Woody notes behave less predictably in wax than citrus does — a sandalwood that smells right in the pot can fade badly in a cured candle.

Measuring. Twenty drops is roughly a millilitre, so a 100ml bottle holds about two thousand drops — useful when scaling a tested recipe up.

Composition differs by variant. The twelve scents in the range are separate products, so nothing established about one carries over to another — including how each behaves on skin, in wax, or in sunlight.

Cool, dark, capped, upright. The amber glass handles daylight; you handle the rest. Close the cap firmly, stand the bottle up so oil is not sitting against the pipette, and keep it away from radiators and sunny sills.

Woods age well. Sandalwood, patchouli and frankincense are among the most stable oils there are, and several woody and resinous oils are considered to improve with a little age. The citrus options in this range are the opposite — they oxidise fastest.

General guide. Stored properly, most essential oils hold their character for one to three years depending on the botanical, with citrus at the short end and woods and resins at the long end. Treat that as guidance rather than a guarantee, and follow any date printed on the bottle.

Keep the pipette clean. Wipe the dropper before returning it to the bottle, particularly if you have been dipping into carrier oils or wax. Contamination carried back into the bottle shortens the life of what is left.

Never neat, never swallowed. This is a concentrated plant extract. Dilute in a carrier oil before any skin contact, patch test a new oil on a small area, keep it away from eyes and mucous membranes, and do not take it internally.

Citrus options and sunlight. Sandalwood itself is not photosensitising, but the lemon and sweet orange in this range can make skin more reactive to UV. After applying those, keep the treated skin out of sun and off sunbeds for the rest of the day.

Pregnancy, medical care and children. If you are pregnant, nursing, under medical care, or using these around young children, speak to a healthcare professional before starting, and diffuse at a lower drop count around children.

Pets, and cats in particular. Cats process some aromatic compounds poorly, with citrus and peppermint among those most often flagged. Never apply oils to an animal, diffuse only in rooms a pet can leave freely, and stop if you see drooling, unsteadiness or breathing changes.

Store out of reach and away from flame. Keep the bottle where children and pets cannot reach it, away from heat and open flame, and wipe spills promptly — undiluted oil marks polished, painted and plastic surfaces.

Caution: For external use only. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Avoid contact with eyes, broken skin, and sensitive areas. Always dilute in a carrier oil before applying to skin.
