A: Yes. Rinse and dry, then grind small batches of dry white rice until the powder stays white (discard between batches). This helps remove stone dust. You can finish by grinding a pinch of salt to deodorize. Lightly oil the exterior only if you want extra sheen.

A: Soapstone is a dense, low-porosity natural stone that’s food-safe. It resists staining and absorbs minimal flavors. For best purity—especially if you also blend resins or ritual mixtures—keep separate sets for edible and non-edible use.

Q: What can I grind in it, and can it handle hot or acidic ingredients?
A: It’s great for dried herbs, whole spices, seeds, and small batches of pastes. Let hot ingredients cool before grinding, and avoid long contact with very acidic items (like vinegar or lemon) which can dull the finish over time.

A: Hand-wash with warm water; use mild soap sparingly and avoid soaking or dishwashers. Dry thoroughly after each use. If textures feel slick, re-season with dry rice. Avoid harsh abrasives, and use a non-slip pad under the base to protect counters.
