The size that follows the sample. Small bottles are for deciding. Once a scent has proved itself in a test batch, buying it again in 10ml portions is just an expensive habit — this is the bottle to move to.

A blending base, not just another scent. Most fragrances only do one job. A musk earns shelf space twice over: it stands on its own, and it improves other fragrances you already own by anchoring them. That makes it the most-used bottle in most collections.

Honest about the machine question. Fragrance oil suits burners and wax without qualification, but water-based ultrasonic diffusers vary — some manufacturers permit fragrance oil, some only allow essential oil. We say so rather than implying it works everywhere.

The rest of the setup. Tealight and electric oil burners are stocked alongside the oils, and the diffuser range lists what each machine accepts.

The working size. Roughly two thousand drops, which is the difference between rationing a fragrance and simply using it. For anyone pouring candles or making soap in batches, a sampling bottle is gone after the test run; this one survives the production.

Smooths any blend. White musk is a base note, so a small percentage added to another fragrance slows its evaporation and softens the joins between sharper materials. It is the quiet ingredient that makes a blend feel finished rather than assembled.

Clean and skin-close. Soft, faintly powdery and warm rather than loud — closer to fresh laundry than to a floral or a fruit. It suits rooms where a strong fragrance would be too much, and it survives both wax and soap without turning sharp.

Eighteen scents available. The same 100ml format runs across clean and fresh, florals, gourmands and soft powders, so your working bottle can be whichever scent you actually reach for most.

In candles. Add at 6–10% of total wax weight at around 65–70°C and stir for a full two minutes so the fragrance binds into the wax. Let the poured candles cure before judging throw — a candle tested the same day will always disappoint.

In wax melts. Melts take a higher load than candles since nothing burns — up to around 8%. Start lower and raise it if the throw is weak rather than the other way round.

In soap. 3–6% of total oil weight in cold process. Test a single loaf first: fragrance oils vary in whether they accelerate trace or discolour a bar, and one small batch tells you before a full run does.

As a blending base. Add at 1–3% of the total fragrance load in another blend. That is enough to lengthen and smooth it without the musk itself becoming the scent you notice.

In burners and diffusers. Three to five drops on the water in a tealight burner, or five to ten drops per tank in an ultrasonic diffuser — but only where the manufacturer states the unit accepts fragrance oil, since not all water-based machines do.

A fragrance concentrate, not an essential oil. White musk is a perfumery accord rather than a plant extract — there is no musk botanical to distil. These are blended aromatic compositions, which is also what makes fresh linen, baby powder and bubble gum possible.

Composition varies by scent. Each of the eighteen options is its own formulation, so behaviour in wax, soap and heat differs between them and nothing established for one carries over to another.

Documentation for resale. If you are selling what you make and need an IFRA certificate, allergen declaration or safety data sheet for a specific scent, ask before ordering so we can check what the supplier holds for that formulation.

Cool, dark and tightly capped. Heat and daylight are what age a concentrate. Store the bottle upright in a cupboard rather than on a shelf above a radiator, and close the cap firmly between pours.

Musks age well. Base notes are the most stable part of any fragrance, so a musk holds its character longer than a citrus or a light floral will. The bright top notes in the other scents in this range fade sooner.

General guide. Stored properly, fragrance oils of this type typically hold their character for a year or two. Treat that as guidance rather than a guarantee, and follow any date printed on the bottle in preference to it.

Mind what it sits on. Undiluted fragrance oil marks polished and painted surfaces and can soften some plastics. Decant over something wipeable, and clean spills straight away.

Not a skin product. This is a concentrated fragrance oil for burners, wax and soap making. Do not apply it neat to skin. If you are formulating a leave-on product, work to the IFRA limit for that scent and category rather than to a general figure.

Away from eyes, and never swallowed. Keep it clear of eyes and mucous membranes and do not ingest it. If it gets in the eyes, rinse with plenty of water and seek medical advice if irritation persists.

Out of reach of children and pets. Store where it cannot be reached, and site any burner where it cannot be knocked over. Diffuse only in rooms a pet can leave freely.

Hot wax and open flame. Add fragrance to wax off the heat source, never over a naked flame, and never leave a tealight burner unattended or let its dish boil dry.

Ventilate while you work. Handling concentrate in quantity is different from smelling a finished candle. Work in a ventilated space and stop if you develop a headache or any irritation.
