Set it up. Place a dhoop cone upright on a heat-resistant holder, an ash-catching dish, or a shallow bowl filled with sand — cones have no bamboo core, so they need a stable, non-flammable surface underneath rather than a stick holder.

Light the tip. Hold a flame to the cone's tip for a few seconds until it glows and catches evenly.

Fan out the flame. Gently fan or wave out the flame rather than blowing it out hard, so the cone keeps a steady, even smolder from tip to base.
