Step 1 — Set the mood. Read the printed affirmation and take a slow breath or two before lighting the wick.

Step 2 — Trim the wick. Trim to about 1/4 inch before every burn, including the first.

Step 3 — Light in a safe spot. Place the votive on a heat-resistant, stable surface away from drafts and anything flammable.

Step 4 — Let the first burn go long. Allow the wax to melt evenly to the edges of the glass before extinguishing, for a cleaner burn on later sessions.

Step 5 — Relight as needed. Because the burn time is generous, relight it across a few short sessions rather than trying to finish it in one sitting.
