Let it burn. Allow it to smolder rather than flame, fanning gently with a hand or feather if it needs more air.

Extinguish safely. Press the burning material into the liner or a small amount of sand to put it out fully rather than leaving it to burn down on its own.

Clean between uses. Once cool, tip out any ash and wipe the liner clean; the hand-painted exterior should be wiped only with a dry or barely damp cloth, never soaked.
